About Springs Online

Developed in 2010 by Jeri Ledbetter and Dr. Larry Stevens, Springs Online offers a user-friendly interface and uses simple methods to enter, retrieve, and analyze springs inventory data. The database is easily accessible to landowners, land managers, conservation organizations, researchers, and the public, furthering our mission to provide quality information regarding springs.

As a relational database, the structure of Springs Online reflects the interrelated nature of data on springs ecosystems. For example, water quality is linked to flow, geology, geomorphology, soils, flora, fauna, and management conditions. A researcher utilizing Springs Online has the ability to compile this information and analyze the relationship between biological, physical, and even cultural data associated with springs.

Springs Online is also designed to ensure the consistency of data. Pre-defined fields and drop-down boxes provide standardization across all entries, while still allowing for customization in anomalous situations. Once data entry is complete, the information is accessible through a wide range of standardized reports that can be easily exported for a researcher's personal use.

Be a part of something great

Anyone can contribute data to Springs Online. As a registered user of the database, a researcher has the ability to:

  • Create a new Springs project, over which they will have administrative status.

  • View publicly available data on known springs.

  • Add survey data to public spring sites.

  • Be granted permission by SSI administrators to access publicly restricted, unknown, or culturally sensitive springs data.

For more information on contributing data, please explore the user manual and FAQ pages.
